USEFUL CREDIT INFORMATION RIGHT NOW

When I first started teaching myself about credit there was so much information available, at times I felt overwhelmed. Below are links to some of the websites I found most helpful with teaching me about my credit. I have also included links to some great articles that are credit education specific. I hope these help!

Experian is 1 of the 3 main credit reporting agencies used by banks and lenders to provide consumer credit information. Experian.com has some really great tools to help you keep track of your credit report and credit scores. I downloaded the Experian app first on my credit healing journey and I use it almost everyday now. The have a free basic plan and paid plans. You can sign up for a free trial to get immediate access to all 3 of your FICO Scores. 

TransUnion is 1 of the 3 main credit reporting agencies used by banks and lenders to provide consumer credit information. TransUnion.com has some really great tools to help you keep track of your credit report and credit scores. You can sign up for their free plan. You will often find that credit card companies will provide you a FREE TransUnion VantageScore with your credit card account. While useful this is not your FICO TransUnion credit score. 

Equifax is 1 of the 3 main credit reporting agencies used by banks and lenders to provide consumer credit information. I have found that a lot of credit unions and smaller banks use Equifax credit reports and scores to help them make lending decisions. Equifax is the oldest of the three major credit bureaus.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is a U.S. government agency dedicated to making sure consumers are treated fairly by banks, lenders and other financial institutions. This is a great place to find letter templates and to file disputes when the credit bureaus have ignored your letters or requests for assistance with inaccurate information  that is being reported on your credit report.

The Federal Trade Commission enforces federal consumer protection laws that prevent fraud, deception and unfair business practices. This link has great information to help you identify lender discrimination and to help you understand your consumer rights when dealing with banks and businesses.

AnnualCreditReport.com provides every consumer with free copies of their credit reports. You must sign up to receive them and verify information that only you should know about your credit history. 

MyFico Logo.png

MyFico.com is a great resource to get access to all 3 of your FICO credit scores. 90% of lenders use FICO scores to make lending decisions so if you have some extra cash you can sign up here. They have a free plan option as well as a paid option.
